Cambridge Half Marathon Festive Training Tips

All Articles

With Christmas approaching and calendars filling up quickly, it’s easy for training to slip:  darker evenings, colder mornings, travel, and family time can all get in the way. But with the TTP Cambridge Half Marathon on the horizon, a little consistency now will pay off massively on race day.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your training moving through the festive season.

Holiday Training Tips

  1. Focus on consistency, not perfection

If the week gets busy, aim for shorter, easy runs rather than skipping entirely. Even 20–30 minutes keeps your legs ticking over and maintains your aerobic base.

  1. Be winter-weather smart

Layer up, keep your hands and ears warm, and make sure you’re visible. A lightweight headtorch can make early-morning or evening runs far more comfortable and safer.

  1. Use indoor options when needed

Treadmills, gym sessions, or even a simple strength routine at home can bridge the gap when the weather turns, or you’re travelling.

  1. Don’t overthink festive meals

Enjoy the holidays,  just balance richer food with relaxed, easy miles. Most runners feel better, not worse, after a gentle post-holiday shakeout run.

  1. Stay flexible with your plan

Coopah plans are very flexible. Can’t get a run in? Click the pencil icon and slide it to another day. It’s the overall pattern that matters most, not hitting every session perfectly.
